CHRISTOPHER AND IVY HURST
Taking the Truth To the Philippines
"The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he would send forth labourers into his harvest." Luke 10:2
"2013 brought many exciting changes in our life. In May we finished our deputation ministry having visited 183 churches and meeting many new friends and prayer partners. We appreciate each and every one! We arrived in the Philippines on May 23rd, and after several adjustments we now could not imagine not living here. God has continued to bless the work here at Metroview since our arrival, and we praise the Lord for all He has done. We saw numerous salvation decisions, 18 baptisms, and either the continuation or beginning of discipleship for several. We have even seen individuals try to divide our church and our church intern being led of the Lord to return to the States. Through it all, God has proved to us He is always faithful!
After Christmas, we took sixteen of our youth/singles to an overnight fellowship about three hours away. It was a blessing for them to meet other teenagers of like faith from churches around Luzon. They were challenged with the theme “Face the Book,” a spin on the popular (even in the Philippines) social media site Facebook.
Several applicable messages were preached along with the theme carrying over into the eight team names, various skits, and exciting contests. Over all, it was an enjoyable and challenging experience for everyone. We praythat God will continue to work in the hearts of our young people and that they will show their desire to be used of God by surrendering their life to Him.
The theme of 2013 “Serve the Lord with Gladness” was a fitting theme as Metroview went through many changes last year, but needed to learn to continue serving the Lord despite their circumstances and to serve Him with the right motives. We praise the Lord that many “stuck-it-out,” developed into servant-hearted people, and continued to stay faithful to the Lord. Now, as we look back on all of the change of the past year, including the trials as well as the blessings, we have all been challenged to continue forward by faithno matter what the future holds and to trust the Lord to guide us through it! We know that God is going to continue doing a great work here at Metroview! It is our vision to someday soon see a Bible institute training national Filipinos to go back to their own people and a Christian school training the next generation of children to make a difference here in the Philippines and ultimately around the world.
In January, Chris, Kaitlin, and Andrew began Tagalog lessons. We have lived here for eight months now, but we still have some difficulty effectively communicating with the people. Each of us desires to be able to fully communicate in the Filipino’s “heart language” while soul-winning and even just in conversation with friends. However, we are very thankful that English is the second language of the Philippines.
We praise the Lord that He provided the funds to put a roof on our two unfinished classrooms through the members of Metroview. One room is for the youth and the oth- er will be for the nursery. Please help us pray that we can complete these rooms in the Lord’s timing.
In these next few months, we desire to begin more Bible studies in order to disciple new believers and help older believers grow. In addition, we desire to begin consistent Bible clubs for children in several small village-type places in Antipolo. Also, with the Lord’s provision of a church vehicle, we will need drivers. Our goal is to begin new routes to fruitful areas, where people want to come to church but have no ride, and also to start routes again that we had to stop because of money or vehicle/drivers shortages.
Please pray for our upcoming events including our Whole Heart Sunday, Couples’ Retreat, and our BIMI Field Conference. Thank you once again for all of your prayer and financial support for our family and MVBC! We appreciate you!"
